Commitment

But the fact remains that there is more than one way to kill our planet.

Humanity has long been imune to clashes of a larger scale. Show a large mushroom cloud on TV and people will not stand for it. Show an army of a million marching down a square, and a million of us will take up arms.
Our fathers have always proud themselves on the fact that they created the key to give life and to take it way, they built the mightiest of the swords, they even brandished it and then didn't use it. They pride themselves on having built the red button to then not press it. But the fact remains that there is more than one way to kill our planet. There is one way that does not require a gruesome decision, a spectacular explosion, a ruthless spite for the lot of us. There is a way of just doing nothing, of ignoring those who say that we have ten years (on the outside) to decide to not destroy the planet. And the fact remains that we have done nothing, because "nothing" is not gruesome, it is not explosive, it does not kill the planet and everyone on it all at once (yes, because, in the greater history of the planet we may well just be a hiccup). Doing nothing merely bites our lives way, piece by piece, drop by drop, second by second. And humanity has never ever risen against a threat that did not pose itself, that had to be confronted by a choice, a decision. Not until it was too late.

Now we're at the brink of it all. Our generation has come to this point where business as usual is just criminal, plain and simple, where the cycle of bubbles is no longer acceptable, because we can simply no longer afford their burst. There is no sword in our hands, no red button blinking that we can choose not to press. This time, and for here on in, we must not only decide to not kill everything, we must choose life.
